Its amazing how an album like Harvest hasn’t dropped considering how dope it is. With production from the Nonce and Fat Jack, most of these songs became instant anthems to us upon the first listen with styles galore and and thought provoking messages whirling in clouds of that sticky indica. Like Chris Wild said the other day “If the beat isn’t tight, I’m not even going to bother listening to the lyrics” and this is certainly not the case here.
We started getting the album piece by piece and we ultimately came up with about 3/4 of the album with classics like “Misc. Funk” and ‘Feel the High’. At first, we thought these tracks were the album versions but recently we learned that these actually were the demos. We first learned about this when Ganjah asked if the ‘Misc Funk’ we had was the one that featured Volume 10 on the hook which, unfortunately, it wasn’t. So this lead us to believe that there was more to the story. So having recently acquired Harvest from Ganjah, we were finally able to connect the dots when we finally heard the final cut of this classic album. Certain songs are completely different like ‘You’re All I Need’ which has a slightly different beat than the one floating around on the net right now and it also features Abstract Rude towards the end.
Hopefully this classic album will see the light of day…

I’m sure all of you have seen the footage of Freestyle Fellowship at the Project Blowed anniversary and many have been asking whether the Fellowship are officially together. Well, it has been confirmed that the Fellowship is back in full effect and a recent post from Daddy Kev has also confirmed will also be working on album this year (with Kev adding to the production, of course). Along with this much awaited release from the Fellowship, they will also be performing as special guests on the Paid Dues Festival on Saturday April 3rd in San Bernadino. Respect Due to the Old School Crew!!!
We saw Big Arch perform this song at the Blowed on Phoenix Orion’s birthday about four years ago. Supposedly this song was around for quite a while (92) but we never able to get a hold of it. We recently got into contact with Big Arch through Imperator (thanks) and he hooked us up with the infamous “Gorillas in the Mist”.
The West Coast Triumvirate will be embarking on a fall tour of Europe in support of their solo lps and the new project from the Magic Heart Genies entitled Magic Heart Genies 2. DJ Drez will also be touring with them so be sure to catch the two great groups on this much awaited tour.
Here’s a blog post from Ab Rude along with the tour dates:
Haiku d’etat has been on hiatus promoting their respective solo records. Last Summer found Mike, Aaron & Eddie touring the States regionally upon the release of Aceyalone’s “The Lonely Ones” lp on Project Blowed/Decon -and- Abstract Rude’s “Rejuvenation” lp on Rhymesayers Ent. Now its the fall and with a new Myka 9 collab lp (Magic Heart Genies 2) just released, Europe is calling for the triumvirate to reunite. Consider this the 1st round of shows that Haiku will perform in Europe. They’ll be joined by special guests DJ Drez & J the Sarge who forms MHG with Myka.
Myka 9 kicks off the tour with a fun solo show at a Cannabis Cup related event. Though the tour only hits Amsterdam and parts of France, Germany, Czech & Hungary, rest assured we haven’t forgot about the UK and other parts of EU like Scandinavia, Poland, etc. We shall return after the new year hopefully through Subotage Agency in the springtime.
PEACE sounds pretty young on this song so we think that this one was probably recorded around 93′-94′. As for the production, we’re not too sure but we’re leaning towards CVE. Alls I know is that this beat is fucking crazy…
This gem is off of the ever-elusive Harvest for the World. Just this passed summer a very bad sounding version of Harvest popped up over at the PhilaFlava forums and when I say bad, I mean BAD. It hurt the ears. Ganjah hooked us up with a few tracks and the infamous “I Need to Stop Smoking” produced by Fat Jack just happened to be one of them. The beat is what caught our attention first, that fucking bass line is fat! And then comes Ganjah just tearin’ the mic a new one. This is a classic underground cut for sure…
We don’t have too much info on this track except that it was produced by Daddy Kev.
Here we have a classic freestyle session with the A-team, L’roneus, and Bukue One. Cali-styles at its finest but LA seemed to have taken over towards the end…..
Hearing Acey start up “Watch LA take those Styles Back” always gets me chuckling.
This next performance is from Santa Cruz and at first I thought “hey, maybe Spoon witl pop out!” buuut hearing Abstract and Acey do it was still good enough. It seems like Abstract knows everyone’s verses…
Capital AK has always been an elusive character to us mostly because there is very little information on him. One of the first time we heard him was on an unknown song on the soundtrack for This is the Life. slowly but surely we started to gather information on him like that he was a part of the First Brigade along with Ganjah-K and Meen Green. Next thing we found of AK was really unexpected. We were listening to the Hip-hop Halloween show and realized that AK performed with the Fellowship that night and Maaaan he fucking ripped it.
Of course, when Capital AK is brought up someone always mentions the beef he had with Ellay Khule. Shit, were the same but what we wonder is what lead to all this. I say it was just an old school battle going back and fourth with songs but my cousin thinks it was something more than that. Maybe we will never know but one thing’s for sure and that’s that they were friends before according to the Hip-hop Kclan chant on Narcolepsy and this still-shot from a video:
Here we have another classic cut from the Darkleaf crew entitled ‘Zero’. We’re not sure who produced this song but we’re pretty sure that it’s by Longevity. Any Info on the track would be much appreciated.
On June 10th, 1999 at Seattle’s 700 Club, the winds of fate and Funky Joint Entertainment formed Chef Salad & the Crew Tones for an exciting, one night only performance. With members: Abstract Rude (ATU), Michael Shrieve (Santana), Lonnie Marshall (Weapon of Chaos), Reggie Watts (Maktub), Zac Hendrix and Leland Jones (Insult 2 Injury), and Dread Eye. The Chef Salad brought something special to the table by showcasing the different styles of it’s talented players. With impressively versatile Ab Rude at the helm, the Salad moved effortlessly through funky upbeat hip-hop, intense soul, reggae, and more. This recording captures the moments from that special evening, from new versions of ATU favorites like “The Renaissance” and “Them That’s Got”, to the gut-wrenching “You’ll Eat Those Words”. Chef Salad & The Crew Tones will have you doing the “Lion Shank” at the dinner table!
Here we have some classic cuts off of the True Sound Sampler. For a while we thought the sampler was only on vinyl and had just a few tracks but we we’re all wrong, very wrong. We recently received a tape from Danny Holloway which turned out to be the full version of the True Sound Sampler with 12 tracks on it! Full of cuts from Vooodu! and the Western Hemisfear crew along with others such as Unit One Poetry and Super Natural Thang…Here’s a little snippet of the tape.
P.S. Bird’s Eye View is Meen Green’s proffesional debut…
